BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Alabama A&M men's indoor track & field delivered a number of strong efforts, fueled by the sprints, hurdles and relays, as they competed at the KMS Open on Sunday, January 31.
Sophomore
Brandon McLaren (Clifton, Hanover, Jamaica) paced the Bulldogs with a 7-of-35 performance in the 60-meter hurdles with a finals time of 8.68 but produced preliminary and semifinal times of 8.48 and 8.50, respectively. He would also add a 24-of-47 outing in the long jump with a mark of 6.33-meters.
Senior
Tyrese McPhatter (Columbus, Ga.) delivered a Top-10 finish in the 200-meters (22.39) and placed 19-of-80 in the 60-meters with a time of 7.00 while freshman
Lucas Davis (Pensacola, Fla.) came away with an 11-of-28 finish in the high jump, clearing 1.85-meters.
The field contingent would continue to produce strong efforts for A&M with senior
Christian Bryant (Newbern, Ala.) placing 11-of-35 in the shotput (12.90m) and junior
Demetrius Hurry II (Foley, Ala.) coming in 15
th in that event with a distance of 12.57-meters and 12-of-28 in the weight throw (14.01m).
Coming through on the track side of things would be the 4x400 relay of senior
Artrayvious Whelchel (Montgomery, Ala.) and sophomores
Myles McCoy (Albany, Ga.),
Kyle Graham (Mobile, Ala.) and
Nicholas Powell (Montgomery, Ala.). That group would notch a 7-of-17 outing with a time of 3:27.55, with each delivering individually as well.
McCoy would post a 9-of-25 finish in the 600-meters (1:26.07) while Whelchel placed 15
th in that event with a time of 1:28.61. Graham added a 16-of-50 performance in the 400-meters and Powell was 37-of-80 in the 60-meters (7.13) to round out the Bulldogs top performers.
A&M will be back in action on Sunday, February 7 when they return to the CrossPlex for the Jaguar Invitational.
