Alabama A&M Football Hits The Road For Final Time in 2021 With Trip to Texas Southern

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – With back-to-back wins behind them, Alabama A&M (5-3, 3-3 SWAC) football looks to lock up a fourth straight winning season as they head to Texas Southern (3-6, 2-4 SWAC) in Southwestern Athletic Conference action on Saturday, November 13. Kickoff is slated for 2 p.m. at BBVA Stadium.

WHERE TO WATCH
Not in a Texas state of mind? Well, make sure to follow all the action live on ESPN+ (behind a paywall) and stay up-to-date with all the must know numbers with live stats.

Additionally, catch full coverage following the game on www.AAMUSports.com, the official online home of Alabama A&M Athletics.

HE'S KIND OF A BIG DEE-AL
From his 6-6 frame to his play on the field, senior wide receiver Dee Anderson (Dallas, Texas) is kind of a big deal. Through eight games he has hauled in 11 touchdowns to tie for the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) national lead in receiving scores.

Additionally, he has produced three games of three touchdowns, including against Mississippi Valley State (11/6) in his most recent outing. That one also featured seven catches and a career-high 122 yards and earned him Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Co-Offensive Player of the Week, the first of his career.

On top of that, those 11 scores, paired with senior running back Gary Quarles (Cottondale, Ala.) finding the endzone eight times, has both as the highest scoring duo in the SWAC.

BULLDOGS SHOWING OUT AT THE NATIONAL LEVEL
Already leading the SWAC in points per game at 33.3, A&M is hitting at the national level with a No. 5 ranking in the country in passing offense (342.5).

It's far from the only impressive rankings as the Bulldogs are currently 14th in total offense (449.2) and scoring offense (33.3), 17th in yards per completion (13.28), 18th in passing efficiency (149.4) as well as 27th in red zone offense (.861).

Individually, graduate quarterback Aqeel Glass (St. Louis, Mo.) ranks in the Top-10 in five categories, including No. 5 in passing yards per game (332.0), No. 7 in passing touchdowns (25) and total points responsible for per game (19.8), No. 8 in total offense (320.2) and No. 9 in passing yards (2,656) and completions per game (25.0).

Meanwhile, Anderson is tied for the national lead in total touchdowns with 11 and is fifth in scoring at 9.4. He is joined by junior wide receiver Abdul-Fatai Ibrahim (Miramar, Fla.) in receptions per game at 6.5 (12th) and is 15th in receiving yards at 89.6. Quarles makes sure the ground game is well represented as he is also 15th in rushing yards per game at 94.5.

ANDERSON AND BULLDOGS ROLL MISSISSIPPI VALLEY STATE 42-14
In their return to the friendly confines of Louis Crews Stadium, Alabama A&M went no holds barred as they drummed Mississippi Valley State 42-14 on Saturday, November 6.

In that one Anderson grabbed three touchdowns as the Bulldogs took a 7-7 tie coming out of the first quarter and put the game away with a 21-point second quarter. They would take that 28-7 halftime lead and add a TD in both the third and the fourth quarters before wrapping up the 28-point victory.

GOING FOR FOUR IN A ROW
With a win over Texas Southern, Alabama A&M would secure a fourth straight winning season following a 6-5 mark in 2018, 7-5 in 2019 and 5-0 this past spring.

That stretch would be the second longest in the program's NCAA Division I era, trailing only six straight seasons from 2002-07.

WATCH ME NOW (SEASON LONG EDITION)
With the majority of this spring's top performers back in the fold for Fall 2021, all eyes are on A&M. Glass headlines those in the spotlight as he has been named to the Walter Payton Award Watch List representing the top player at the Football Championship Subdivision, the Deacon Jones Watch List as the top player at an HBCU and both the Reese's Senior Bowl and College Football Performance Awards (CFPA).

He is joined by junior wide receiver Abdul-Fatai Ibrahim (Miramar, Fla.) on the Deacon Jones and has also been named a BOXTOROW Preseason All-American and SWAC Preseason Player of the Year. Those pale in comparison, however, to being the first player selected to play in the inaugural HBCU Legacy Bowl, a new postseason All-Star game featuring the top 100 HBCU National Football League (NFL) draft eligible players.

On top of those honors, Glass was named Offensive Most Valuable Player of the Magic City Classic while graduate linebacker Armoni Holloway (Pinson, Ala.) claimed Defensive MVP with impressive performances. Additionally, Dee Anderson earned his first SWAC Co-Offensive Player of the Week honor on November 8.

ABOUT THE TEXAS SOUTHERN UNIVERSITY TIGERS
Texas Southern opened the season dropping three straight, first 40-17 to Prairie View (9/4) before falling to a pair of Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) programs in Baylor (66-7 on 9/11) and Rice (48-34 on 9/25).

They got in the win column with a 69-0 decision over North American University on October 2 and made it two in a row with a 35-31 win over Southern a week later. The Tigers would suffer back-to-back defeats to Grambling (34-20 on 10/16) and Alcorn State (44-27 on 10/23) before righting the ship with a 59-17 victory over Arkansas-Pine Bluff on October 30. Most recently they are coming off of a 41-21 loss at Jackson State last week.

LET'S GET SERIE-OUS
Dating back to September 29, 2001, the Bulldogs hold a commanding 13-4 advantage over Texas Southern during their DI era.
Currently A&M has won the past three in a row with a  35-28 overtime victory in Huntsville on October 5, 2019, a 42-21 win in Houston on October 6, 2018 and a 30-13 decision at Louis Crews Stadium on September 23, 2017.
