Record Cold From Polar Vortex Forces Adjustments to Alabama A&M Athletics Schedule

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – With record low temperatures stemming from the polar vortex affecting most of the country, Alabama A&M Athletics' schedules have been impacted for contests scheduled for this weekend, beginning on Friday, February 19 and running through Sunday, February 21.

Each program that has had their events affected is listed below and will be updated as necessary as weather developments occur.

Men's and Women's Indoor Track & Field
Due to the extreme weather affecting the country, and the resulting ability of league members to safely travel to Birmingham, Alabama, the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) has postponed the 2021 Indoor Track & Field Championships scheduled for Thursday, February 18 and Friday, February 19.

The SWAC has announced that the event will now be held on Wednesday, February 24 and Thursday, February 25 at its original site, the Birmingham CrossPlex. The meet will be closed to spectators for the duration of the event but the final day will be available on the SWAC Digital Network.

Baseball
Originally scheduled to play three games in the Andre "The Hawk" Dawson Classic in New Orleans, Louisiana from Friday, February 19 through Sunday, February 21, the Bulldogs will now begin their season next Tuesday, February 23 at Auburn.

Sponsored by Major League Baseball (MLB), the tournament has been cancelled out of an abundance of caution as a number of participating teams have been snowed in. A&M was slated to play Grambling, Arkansas-Pine Bluff and Prairie View A&M. There is currently no plan for the games to be rescheduled as part of the tournament.

Men's and Women's Tennis
Alabama A&M men's and women's tennis was scheduled to travel to Baton Rouge, Louisiana for three matches apiece but the SWAC-sponsored event has been postponed due to inclement weather.

Both programs were slated to take on Alabama State, Mississippi Valley State and Grambling from February 19-21. The event has been rescheduled for Friday, February 26 through Sunday, February 28 and will be hosted by Southern University.

Women's Soccer
Women's soccer was slated to host neighboring NCAA Division II member Alabama-Huntsville in a non-conference game at 1 p.m. on Sunday, February 21.

Due to weather postponing UAH's game against Mississippi College originally scheduled for Thursday, February 18, the Chargers have moved that game to Sunday. The Bulldogs will now play Alabama-Huntsville at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, February 24 at Bulldog Field.
