BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Alabama A&M sophomore forward
Jalen Johnson (Indianapolis, Ind.) has been named the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Men's Basketball Player of the Week as announced by the league on Friday, February 26.
Johnson delivered an impressive week with averages of 22.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 1.5 steals and 1.0 blocks and shot .750 (18-of-24) from the field over the course of two games.
He opened the week at Alcorn State (2/22) where he put up 25 points on 10-of-12 shooting and yanked down nine boards in 29 minutes of work. Four of those rebounds were off the offensive glass and he added a block and steal for good measure.
Johnson would produce another strong outing at Southern (2/24) to close the week. In that one he would log 35 minutes and come away with 19 points (8-of-12), five caroms, three assists, a pair of steals and another block.
It marks the third time this season that he has earned SWAC Player of the Week, collecting honors on December 2 and 22 of 2021.
The Bulldogs and Johnson return to action on Saturday, February 27 when they host Prairie View A&M. Game time is slated for 4:30 p.m. in Elmore Gymnasium.
