BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – In what has become a regular occurrence throughout the 2020-21 campaign, Alabama A&M junior forward
Dariauna Lewis (Omaha, Neb.) has earned Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) women's basketball weekly honors for the fifth time, but the first as its Impact Player of the Week, as announced by the league on Tuesday, March 2.
A new award for this season, it recognizes the accomplishments of a player that made a noticeable difference in their team's games. While Lewis has claimed four SWAC Player of the Week honors this season, this particular award pretty much sums up her game and what she does for the Bulldogs as not a game goes by where she doesn't make a major impact.
Lewis put up impressive numbers as she averaged 17.0 points, 11.5 rebounds, 3.0 blocks and 2.5 assists over two games while shooting .667 (16-of-24).
She opened the week against Prairie View A&M (2/27) with 18 points, 13 rebounds and four assists and four blocks before pulling off another double-double against Texas Southern (3/1). In that contest she finished with 16 points on 7-of-10 shooting and 10 rebounds to go along with two blocks.
In terms of Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) statistical rankings, Lewis currently leads in rebounding (13.1) and field goal percentage (.608) and is third in scoring (16.9) and blocks (2.1).
It marks the seventh time in her brief AAMU career that she has earned SWAC weekly honors, the first six being Player of the Week. She collected those honors on November 21, 2019, January 14 and December 2, 2020 and February 2, 9 and 26 of this year.
Lewis and the Bulldogs return to action Thursday, March 4 as they travel to league leading Jackson State. Tip-off is slated for 5:30 p.m. in Jackson, Mississippi.
