Alabama A&M's Jalen Johnson Named BOXTOROW Second-Team All-American

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – With a tremendous campaign under his belt, Alabama A&M sophomore forward Jalen Johnson (Indianapolis, Ind.) has been named a BOXTOROW Division I Second-Team All-American as announced by that organization on Thursday, March 25.

Already an All-Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Second-Team honoree, Johnson adds to his trophy case as he picks up the first All-American recognition of his career. That comes following a year in which he earned three SWAC Player of the Week honors and averaged 16.5 points, 7.5 rebounds and 1.1 steals and shot .562 from the field in 15 games and starts.

Over the course of the 2020-21 season he would register double-figures in scoring 12 times, with four games of 20 points or more, while hauling in double-digits in rebounds four times with each of them a double-double.

Johnson produced a career-best 28 points on 13-of-17 shooting in the season opener at Samford (11/29) and backed that up with 24 points and 11 caroms in his very next outing against South Alabama (12/19).

After an impressive 25-point, nine rebound performance against Alcorn State (2/22), followed by 22 points and seven boards vs. Arkansas-Pine Bluff (2/8) he would record his two best rebounding performances over the final three games of the season.

The 6-7 forward hauled in 13 boards against both eventual NCAA Tournament team Texas Southern (3/1) and Grambling (3/6) while adding 16 and 15 points, respectively, to cap off a breakout sophomore campaign.

With the selection he is one of seven honorees from the SWAC and now considered one of the 17 best players from the Division I Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) ranks in the country.
