BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Alabama A&M junior starter
Jose Figueroa (Toa Alta, Puerto Rico) was dominant in his one start last week and has been named the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Baseball Co-Pitcher of the Week as announced by the league on Thursday, March 25.
Figueroa delivered a command performance in his one outing this past week against an offensive minded Alcorn State (3/19) team.
In that start he threw seven innings, allowing just four hits and no runs, earned or otherwise, while striking out a whopping 12 batters and allowing just a pair of walks. That performance led the Bulldogs to a 9-2 win, the first of new head coach
Elliott Jones' career, and earned Figueroa the victory.
Highlighting that performance was an impressive finish by the 5-11 righty as he set down the final nine batters he faced, including striking out four of the last five.
Alabama A&M baseball and Figueroa are back in action tomorrow at Jackson State for the first game of a three-game series. First pitch of the opener is set for 6 p.m. under the lights with a 1 p.m. start on Saturday, March 27 and 12 noon for the finale on Sunday, March 28.
