Record Eight Scholar-Athletes Headline Alabama A&M Women's Tennis ITA Honors; Third Consecutive Team Academic Award

TEMPE, Ariz. – Alabama A&M women's tennis has continued to deliver on and off the court as they have earned a program record eight Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Scholar-Athlete Team selections as announced by that organization on Tuesday, July 13.

Producing that record-setting performance were juniors Jasmine Boyd (Marion, Ind.), Anita Bozhko (Minsk, Belarus), Ximena Duarte Ramirez (Asuncion, Paraguay) and India Woods (Tuscaloosa, Ala.) as well as senior Ayana Rengiil (Koror, Palau), sophomores Neha Ghare (Pune, India) and Camila Ruiz Diaz (Asuncion, Paraguay) and freshman Kennedy Ward (Hoover, Ala.).

In order to be named an ITA Scholar-Athlete an individual must maintain at least a 3.5 Grade Point Average for the duration of the current academic year and be a full member of the program.

"As a program, we always set a goal to excel in academics," said head coach Willis Mbandi. "This team has done really well and I'm very proud of them."

Beyond that impressive individual performance the Bulldogs also earned their third straight ITA All-Academic Team recognition, an accomplishment that requires the entire team as a group to produce at least a 3.2 GPA over the course of the academic calendar.

The individual honors bring the program's all-time total to 19 from 11 individuals – all of which have come in the past three years as the team has delivered one of its strongest academic performances. Each of those seasons have also resulted in ITA Academic Team recognition.

That resurgence has been led by three-time honorees Woods and Rengiil along with back-to-back selections Boyd, Bozhko, Ghare and Ruiz Diaz. Duarte Ramirez earned spots on the team in 2018-19 as well as this season.
