Alabama A&M Bowling Notches Three on NTCA All-Academic Team; Earns Team Academic Honor

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Continuing a run of academic excellence, Alabama A&M bowling has placed three individuals on the National Tenpin Coaches Association (NTCA) All-Academic Team and earned the Team All-Academic recognition as announced by that organization on Tuesday, July 6.

Earning the individual scholar athlete honors for the Bulldogs were senior Daphne Price (Memphis, Tenn.), junior Taese Davenport (Sheffield, Ala.) and sophomore Montaya Walton (Detroit, Mich.). For Davenport and Price it marks three straight years being recognized while Walton has earned the honor in each of her first two seasons.

Those selections mark the 11th time in the 16-year history of the award that A&M has earned at least one honoree. In order to earn a spot on the NTCA All-Academic Team, individuals must have a cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.4 or higher over the course of the academic school year.

In terms of the Team All-Academic recognition, the entire squad must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.2 for the traditional academic calendar. This year Alabama A&M was among a record 59 teams to accomplish this feat, doing so for a third-straight year with their 3.326 GPA.

Walton, Price and Davenport were joined by sophomores Nariya Jackson (Fort Wayne, Ind.), Kimberly Mann (Huntsville, Ala.) and Kelecia Orange (Birmingham, Ala.) in leading the Bulldogs to this impressive honor.

In all 11 years that A&M has placed a student-athlete on the NTCA All-Academic Team, they have never had fewer than three. That included a program record six in each of the first two years of the award in 2005-06 and 2006-07 when the honors were also considered Academic All-American recognition.

With the three selections this year, the Bulldogs have now earned 12 of their 43 all-time honors in the past three seasons.
