HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Alabama A&M women's volleyball has announced a 28-match slate that includes three schools from Power 5 conferences as well as a 16 match schedule against Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) opponents.
The Bulldogs will get their season started against Pac-12 member California (1-21) on August 27 before facing host Tulane (10-10) later that evening. The next day on August 28, A&M will play Southland Conference member Northwestern State (2-11) to wrap up the Tulane Invitational.
One week later the Bulldogs will travel to Carbondale, Illinois for the Saluki Bash where they will face Southern Illinois (2-18) in their first match on September 3. Just four hours later A&M will face Oral Roberts (3-15) before closing out the Bash against UT-Martin (6-10).
The Bulldogs will then face one of their toughest challenges of the season as they take on Jacksonville State (16-2) on September 7. The Gamecocks efforts led them to the 2020 Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) Volleyball Championships finals. Exactly one week later on September 14, A&M return to their home state as they head to Florence to face off against North Alabama (1-13) of the Atlantic Sun Conference (ASUN).
Two days later the Bulldogs travel to Bloomington, Indiana to battle host Indiana (5-15) to open the Indiana Invitational. Up next they will tackle Western Atlantic Conference (WAC) member Chicago State (1-9) before playing Southeastern Conference foe Ole Miss (1-19) to close out the Invitational.
The Bulldogs will eventually play in their hometown of Huntsville, Alabama as they face off against UNA on September 21. On September 24 (SWAC) competition will be on its way as A&M will tackle state rivals, 2019 SWAC Champions and NCAA Tournament qualifier Alabama State (17-22) in Montgomery, Alabama. Up next they will face the 2020-21 SWAC Champions Jackson State (11-1) on October 3 at home.
Staying in the Rocket City, A&M will host Mississippi Valley State (0-10) on October 4 before traveling to Jackson, Mississippi for three consecutive matches. Arkansas-Pine Bluff (9-4) will be their first opponent, followed by Grambling (8-9) four hours later. Texas Southern (2-10) will round out the Bulldogs' trip to Jackson on October 10.
Alabama A&M will then hit the road to Florida, playing SWAC newcomer Bethune-Cookman (8-24) on October 17 in Daytona Beach, Florida. The following day the Bulldogs will head to Tallahassee to face off against the other new team in the league, Florida A&M (10-21).
Bulldogs will then return home to face off against rival Alabama State for the second time, this time on October 22, before heading to Baton Rouge for three games, firstly on October 31 as they face Southern.
They will then take on Alcorn State (3-7) for the first time on the season later that day and finish up in Baton Rouge, Louisiana by playing Prairie View A&M (12-3) the following day on November 1.
Still sticking with SWAC competition, AAMU will return to Jackson, Mississippi to face the Tigers, on November 7 followed by a quick turnaround to MVSU on November 8. Later that week the Bulldogs return home to host FAMU on November 13 and then Bethune-Cookman the following day to end the regular season.
Following the regular season, the top eight teams will then head to the 2021 SWAC Tournament. Currently that is scheduled for November 19-21 in the friendly confines of Alabama A&M's Elmore Gymnasium. From there the SWAC Champion will then earn a spot in the 2021 NCAA Tournament as they league's automatic qualifier.
