HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Riding an eight-game win streak dating back to 2019, Alabama A&M (2-0, 1-0 SWAC) football returns to Mobile, Alabama as they take on rival NCAA Division II Tuskegee (1-2, 0-0 SIAC) in the Fourth Annual Gulf Coast Challenge. Game time is set for 4 p.m. on Saturday, September 25 with kickoff set for 4 p.m.
This will be the third time that the Bulldogs have played in the GCC, falling 29-27 to Southern on September 22, 2018 and bludgeoning DII Central State 63-20 on September 28, 2019. This will be the Golden Tigers first appearance in the game at Ladd-Peebles Stadium.
LET'S GET SERIE-US
While there is some debate to where the actual series history stands, available information points to A&M leading 27-20-3 with the last meeting coming on September 6, 2014. That would see the Bulldogs notch a 30-17 win in Tuskegee, Alabama as part of victories in four of the last five meetings.
That stretch dates to October 3, 2009 with the only time TU pulled off the upset coming on September 7, 2013 with a 23-7 decision at Louis Crews Stadium.

BIG TIMIN' IN THE BRIGHT LIGHTS - AGAIN
Presented with another game under the lights – this time with a national audience on ESPNU – the Bulldogs once again rose to the occasion despite heavy rains coming down.
Taking on Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) newcomer Bethune-Cookman for the first time in 42 years, they pulled out a 30-27 victory on a night that graduate quarterback
Aqeel Glass (St. Louis, Mo.) didn't throw for his usual 300-plus yards.
Instead, he managed the game and the weather and leaned heavily on junior running back
Gary Quarles (Cottondale, Ala.) to soften up the defense. The diminutive back carried the ball 27 times for 101 yards and found the endzone, setting up the passing game that saw junior wide receiver
Abdul-Fatai Ibrahim (Miramar, Fla.) snag a pair of touchdowns. One of the latter would make a contortionist proud as he tight roped the endline, leaned out past the field of play and hauled in a circus catch.
And it was definitely not all offense as the defense stepped up once again – particularly junior safety
Trenell Troutman (Orlando, Fla.). He recorded nine tackles, six on his own and 1.5 in the backfield, while snagging a ball to end B-CU's opening drive and then their last to end the game. It was the second straight game that he served as "The Closer" after ending the season-opening 42-41 victory over South Carolina State (9/4) the same way.
RAKING IN THE HONORS – PART II
After seeing Glass earn SWAC Offensive Player of the Week following that game against S.C. State, his backfield mate in Quarles took over that mantle this week. Following his 101 yards and a TD on the ground, along with three key catches for 46 yards, the 5-6 running back made it two straight such honors in as many opportunities for the Bulldogs.
WATCH ME NOW
With the majority of this spring's top performers back in the fold for Fall 2021, all eyes are on A&M. Glass headlines those in the spotlight as he has been named to the Walter Payton Award Watch List representing the top player at the Football Championship Subdivision, the Deacon Jones Watch List as the top player at an HBCU and both the Reese's Senior Bowl and College Football Performance Awards (CFPA).
He is joined by Ibrahim on the Deacon Jones and has also been named a BOXTOROW Preseason All-American and SWAC Preseason Player of the Year. Those pale in comparison, however, to being the first player selected to play in the inaugural HBCU Legacy Bowl, a new postseason All-Star game featuring the top 100 HBCU National Football League (NFL) draft eligible players.
ABOUT THE TUSKEGEE UNIVERSITY GOLDEN TIGERS
The Golden Tigers come into the game sporting a 1-2 record over the first three weeks of the season, the last of those being a decisive 23-6 win over Edward Waters on Saturday, September 18.
They would open the season in the Red Tails Classic, named for the historic World War II African American pilots who trained in Tuskegee, and would be shutout out 30-0 by Fort Valley State on Sunday, September 5.
From there they would return home to Cleve L. Abbott Memorial Alumni Stadium to take on West Alabama on Saturday, September 11. In that one, UWA would come out on top with a 33-7 victory before TU got in the win column the following week.
