First-Time Visit By Bethune-Cookman Up Next For Alabama A&M Women's Basketball

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – For the second straight game, Alabama A&M (7-11, 5-3 SWAC) women's basketball will welcome an opponent to Elmore Gymnasium for the first time as they host Bethune-Cookman (3-14, 2-6 SWAC) on Monday, January 31. Game time is set for 5 p.m.

A&M concludes a brief two-game homestand riding a three-game win streak that began with a 71-67 in come-from-behind victory at Texas Southern (1/22), 70-64 decision at Prairie View (1/24) and a 68-57 win over Florida A&M (1/29).

B-CU comes in having lost nine of their last 11, including three straight on the court with losses to Arkansas-Pine Bluff (73-56 on 1/17), Jackson State (82-49 on 1/22) and Alabama State (81-64 on 1/29). Within that three game stretch the Wildcats benefitted from a COVID-19 based forfeit vs. Alcorn State on January 24. That game counts in the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) standings, per a league decision to count such forfeits in the league record while the NCAA views the game as a no contest.

The meeting will be the first between the teams in more than 17 years and only the third such encounter on record. Bethune-Cookman holds a 2-1 advantage with the first meeting being an 89-73 Bulldog victory on December 5, 1998. Since then B-CU has notched a 73-68 victory on January 5, 2000 and 71-59 on December 14, 2004.

Fans will be able to follow all of the action with live stats and live video and a game program with full postgame coverage of all the action available on www.AAMUSports.com, the official online home of Alabama A&M Athletics, following the final horn.
