BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Junior Brandon McClaren (Clifton, Hanover, Jamaica) led Alabama A&M men's indoor track & field with three strong performances at the Samford Bulldog Open on Saturday, February 12.
McLaren placed 5-of-45 in the long jump with a mark of 6.89-meters and finished 11-of-42 in the 60-meter hurdles. He would post a time of 8.64 in the prelims before lowering that significantly to 8.49 in the semifinals to go with a 46-of-88 outing in the 200-meters (23.08).
Joining him was junior
Nicholas Powell (Montgomery, Alabama) with a 14-of-73 finish in the 400-meters (49.55) with junior
Kyle Graham (Mobile, Ala.) and senior
Keyshawn Johnson placing 31
st and 34
th with times of 51.13 and 51.38, respectively. Sophomore
Shawn Guerrier (Miami, Fla.) rounded out the top track performances with a 34-of-84 finish in the 60-meters with a mark of 7.15.
Senior
Demetrius Hurry II (Foley, Ala.) notched a strong 16-of-42 effort in the weight throw (14.00m) and came in 27-of-47 in the shotput at 11.92-meters while junior
Isaiah McCaulley (Huntsville, Ala.) was 17
th in the weight at 13.88-meters and 26
th in the shot at 12.41-meters.
The Bulldogs head right back to the Birmingham CrossPlex next week as they gear up for the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Indoor Championships. That meet will run from February 17-18.
