BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Following the Bulldogs four game winning streak, senior right hand pitcher
Josue Torres (Cidra, Puerto Rico) has been named Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) baseball Pitcher of the Week as announced by the league on Wednesday, May 11.
Torres delivered a command performance to help the Bulldogs defeat Mississippi Valley State in their second game of the evening on Saturday, May 7. In that game he started and threw nine innings, allowing just five hits and no earned run, while striking out an impressive six batters. That performance anchored a 5-0 victory and helped Alabama A&M seal the series against MVSU.
This is the third Bulldog to receive weekly honors and joins junior pitcher
Jose Figueroa (Toa Alta, Puerto Rico) who earned the recognition on March 30 and junior utility man
Jared Tribett (Lumberton, Miss.) who was named Hitter of the Week on the same day.
Alabama A&M baseball, alongside Torres, is back in action from Friday, May 14 as they face off against Bethune-Cookman for the start of a three-game series. First pitch is slated for 6 p.m. EST at Jackie Robinson Ball Park
