PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – Junior
Brandon McLaren (Clifton, Hanover, Jamaica) continues to deliver as he has earned the right to compete for another title with another impressive performance for Alabama A&M men's track & field on Day 2 of the 2022 Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Championships on Friday, May 6.
Fresh off the program's first individual title in the javelin in at least the past 15 years yesterday, McLaren placed 6-of-22 in the 110-meter hurdles. His time of 14.75 landed among the top eight in the league and secured him a spot in the event finals tomorrow, with a chance to pursue another championship and points that can drive the Bulldogs up in the standings.
While not qualifying for the finals, freshman
Tyler Pitts joined him with a Top-10 performance in the 400-meter hurdles, finishing 10-of-22 with a time of 56.50. Junior
Nicholas Powell (Montgomery, Ala.) rounded out the top performance of Day 2 as he placed 17-of-31 and crossed the line in 21.93 in the 200-meters.
As a result of McLaren's first place finish, and the 10 points that go with it, the Bulldogs sit 7-of-10 in the standings in their first SWAC Championship appearance since 2018. Arkansas-Pine Bluff leads the field with 40 points with Bethune-Cookman (30), Texas Southern (29), Prairie View (27) and Southern (22) rounding out the top five.
