HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – With the close of the 2021-22 campaign, the Alabama A&M Sports Information Office is producing a Season in Review for each of the program's 16 sports from the past year.
That series began and will progress to the winter and spring campaigns. Each week reviews will be released on Mondays and Wednesdays until concluding with the final spring sport on Monday, July 18 and a Department Season in Review on Wednesday, July 20. Today we take a look back at the 2021 Women's Volleyball season.
Fall 2021 Women's Cross Country

2021 Season in Review
- Picked to finish first in the 2021 SWAC Preseason Poll.
- Delivered a 3-1 victory against eventual No. 5 seed Grambling (10/9) on the first day of the SWAC Eastern Division Cluster One. A&M would then earn a 3-2 decision over Texas Southern on the final day, delivering that with a thrilling 16-14 final set.
- The Bulldogs added a 3-1 victory over Prairie View (11/1) on the final day of the Southern Cluster.
- Secured final win of the season against Mississippi Valley State (11/8) with 3-2 decision. Closed out that victory with a 15-11 mark in the fifth set.
- Played matches against power house SEC member Ole Miss (9/17), PAC-12 team California (8/27) and Big Ten member Northwestern (8/28).
Individual Achievements/Honors
- Against MVSU sophomore setter Isis Mitchell (Plano, Texas) ignited the offense with 48 assists and 22 digs while senior defensive hitter Maci Battle (Meridianville, Ala.) came away with 19 digs in a 3-2 victory.
- Freshman middle hitter Sydney Morant (Columbus, Ohio) delivered five matches with double digit kills.
- Freshman middle hitter Ryann Tolbert (Southfield. Mich.) led the Bulldogs in kills for the season with 177.
- Senior outside hitter Ashley Jordan (Bridgetown, Barbados) had 20 kills and 11 digs to help the Bulldogs defeat MVSU.
- Battle and Tolbert played in all 28 matches.
- Five players had impressive performances against Prairie View as Jordan, Tolbert and Morant put up 19, 18 and 12 kills, respectively, to secure a 3-1 victory. Mitchell chipped in with a whopping 49 assists and Battle had 19 digs.
- Battle came away with 23 digs as AAMU delivered a 3-1 decision against Grambling.
