Alabama A&M Women's Tennis Earns Five Selections To ITA Scholar-Athlete Team; Earns Fourth Straight Team Academic Award

TEMPE, Ariz. – Alabama A&M women's tennis continues to produce on and off the court with five Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Scholar-Athlete Team selections and a fourth straight ITA Team Academic Award as announced by that organization on Tuesday, July 12.

Headlining that group were a number of multi-time honorees, including senior India Woods (Tuscaloosa, Ala.), juniors Ximena Duarte Ramirez (Asuncion, Paraguay), Neha Ghare (Pune, India) and Camila Ruiz Diaz (Asuncion, Paraguay) as well freshman Deja Brown (Spring Valley, Calif.).

Woods is the only individual to be named four-times with Duarte Ramirez, Ghare and Ruiz Diaz being three-time honorees.

In order to be named an ITA Scholar-Athlete, which dates back to the 2003-04 campaign, an individual must maintain at least a 3.5 Grade Point Average for the duration of the current academic year and be a full member of the program.

"I'm proud of these young ladies," said head women's tennis coach Willis Mbandi. "We have managed to maintain our high academic standards, winning in class once again."

Beyond the individual accolades, A&M also earned their program-record extending fourth straight ITA All-Academic Team recognition, an accomplishment that requires the entire team as a group to produce at least a 3.2 GPA over the course of the academic calendar.

The individual honors bring the program's all-time total to 24 from 12 individuals – all of which have come in the past four years as the team continues to deliver one of its strongest academic performances.

Each of those seasons have also resulted in ITA Academic Team recognition and at least five individuals being so honored.
