BIRMINGHAM, Ala. | Alabama A&M University junior outside hitter
Saldy Amparo-Smith was selected the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Offensive Player of the Week, the conference announced on Tuesday.
Amparo-Smith played in all eight sets last week as Alabama A&M defeated Bethune-Cookman and Florida A&M as the Bulldogs extended their winning streak to seven matches. The junior registered 45 kills, including 34 in the five-set victory over Florida A&M on Saturday, hitting .404. She averaged 5.63 kills per set. In addition, Amparo-Smith tallied 18 digs and six service aces in the two conference matches.
Alabama A&M (8-16 overall, 7-3 SWAC) visit Jackson, Miss., for three SWAC Roundup matches starting on Sunday. The Bulldogs will meet Texas Southern and Southern on Sunday and conclude play on Monday against Prairie View A&M.
