HUNTSVILLE, Ala. | Alabama A&M University head men's basketball coach Otis Hughley Jr., announced on Wednesday the release of the 2023-24 schedule, which features matchups against three SEC opponents and a trip to Cleveland, Ohio to compete in the Viking Invitational.
"As a program we look forward to building a solid foundation in the wake of last year's beginning," Hughley said. "The pursuit of winning fuels our every effort in the classroom and on the court!"
Alabama A&M, which went 15-18 overall last season and 10-8 in Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) play, advanced to the conference tournament semifinals. The Bulldogs defeated Southern, 77-63 in the quarterfinals before falling to eventual tourney champions Texas Southern, 74-61, in the semifinals.
AAMU opens the season with an exhibition game against Oakwood at home, with a 7 p.m. tip-off at the Event Center on Nov. 6.
The Bulldogs take to the road for their next six games.
A trip to Florence, Ala., to take on North Alabama on Nov. 9 starts the road swing, followed by games at Lipscomb (Nov. 18) and Auburn (Nov. 21).
Alabama A&M travels to Cleveland, Ohio for the Viking Invitational, playing host Cleveland State on Nov. 24 and ending the road trip and invitational on Nov. 25 against East Tennessee State.
The Bulldogs return home for a 7 p.m. game at the Event Center against Tennessee State, before three straight games on the road.
AAMU visits Vanderbilt on Dec. 2 and Georgia Tech on Dec. 9, before wrapping up the road trip on Dec. 11 against Samford.
UAB makes a trip to the Event Center on Dec. 13 and UT-Chattanooga concludes the home portion of the non-conference slate on Dec. 16.
Alabama A&M plays the final two non-conference games on the road, beginning Dec. 21 at South Alabama and on Dec. 30 with the final SEC opponent, Georgia.
The Bulldogs open SWAC play on the road, beginning on Jan. 6 against Arkansas-Pine Bluff and on Jan. 8 at Mississippi Valley State.
The conference home slate begins on Jan. 13 against Alcorn State and on Jan. 15 against Jackson State.
Alabama A&M and rival Alabama State will compete in the Bridge Builder Classic on Jan. 22 in Mobile, Ala.
The Bulldogs make the Texas road swing on Jan. 27 and Jan. 29 against Texas Southern and Prairie View A&M, respectively.
Florida A&M and Bethune-Cookman make the trip to the Event Center Feb. 3 and Feb. 5, before back-to-back road games against Southern (Feb. 10) and Grambling State (Feb. 12).
Alabama A&M plays host to Mississippi Valley State on Feb. 17 and Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Feb. 19 and will conclude the month in Florida against Bethune-Cookman (Feb. 24) and Florida A&M (Feb. 26)
The final month of the regular season begins on March 2 at home against Alabama State. AAMU closes out the regular season March 7 and March 9 at home versus Grambling State and Southern.
The 2024 SWAC Men's Basketball Tournament begins March 13 and concludes March 16 in Birmingham, Ala.
