BIRMINGHAM, Ala. | Ana-Liese Torian and Talil Atkins highlighted Alabama A&M University's season-opening performances for the men's and women's track and field team on Friday in the BSC Panther Indoor Icebreaker at the Birmingham Crossplex.
 
Torian placed second with an 8.78, after running a school-best 8.50 in the preliminaries of the women's 60m hurdles. Meanwhile, Atkins finished second, running 48.30, in the men's 400m.
 
WOMEN'S TRACK EVENTS

• Ana-Liese Torian and Shakiera Woods went second and fourth, respectively, in the 60m hurdles
• Torian crossed the line at 8.78, while Woods finished in 8.95 

WOMEN'S FIELD EVENTS

• Briana Cox placed 13th in the shot put, recording a distance of 11.39m
• In the long jump, Miahna Harden just missed the fourth spot, taking fifth, with a leap of 5.58m
• Alliyah Jones placed 12^th in the triple jump, with a jump of 10.95m
• In the high jump, Ajanae Cressey claimed the 13th,  with a leap of 1.55m
• Cox took reset her own school record she set during the 2022-2023 season, with a new personal best of 16.35m in the weight throw
• Niasija Wright claimed 10th in the weight throw, with a toss of 14.55m

MEN'S TRACK EVENTS

• In the 400m, Talil Atkins finished second, with a time of 48.30, while teammates Brian Johnson (49.64) and Kody Pugh (49.91) placed ninth and 12th, respectively
• Eric Barker just missed qualifying in the 60m hurdles, placing ninth, with a time of 8.57, which was two-tenths off the final spot
• Eric Brannon claimed the 10th spot in the mile, logging a time of 4:33.62
• In the 800m, Lawrence Armstead finished 12th, with a time of 2:00.82, and Zachary Cooper placed 13th, with a time of 2:01.73

MEN'S FIELD EVENTS

• Bruce Davis claimed fourth in the shot put at 14.68m
• In the triple jump, Lance Powell narrowly missed the fourth spot, taking fifth, with a jump of 13.92m

Alabama A&M will take a month off before its next meet as the Bulldogs will compete at the UAB Blazer Invitational on Friday, Jan. 12 in Birmingham, Ala.
