HUNTSVILLE, Ala. ^__ Alabama A&M baseball will return to play this weekend with three games in three days as part of the MLB Dawson Classic, starting on Friday, February 24, held at Maestri Field at the University of New Orleans.

The classic includes four Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) members, also including Grambling State, Prairie View A&M, and Southern.

The Bulldogs (3-2, 0-0 SWAC) swept conference opponent Alcorn State on the road to start the season, before dropping a pair of midweek matchups to No. 3 Tennessee on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week.

A&M has accounted for 33 hits in 140 at-bats, while scoring 28 runs and 23 total RBI over five games. Four batters hold batting averages above .300, led by junior Jalen Parker (Marietta, Ga.), currently hitting .429 from the plate, followed by fellow juniors in Blake Martin (Houston, Texas) and Jared Tribett (Lumberton, Miss.) both at .375, while freshman Miles Jackson (Atlanta, Ga.) is at .333 on the year.

Grambling dropped their first two games of the year last weekend, falling to Prairie View A&M (Feb. 17) and Southern (Feb. 18), before defeating Mississippi Valley State (Feb. 19). After also taking part in the Cactus Jack Classic, the Tigers dropped a road contest in Fayetteville against SEC opponent Arkansas on Tuesday, falling 9-7.

Prairie View A&M is 1-3 entering weekend play, with a season-opening win against Grambling, 7-5, before falling to Texas Southern and Jackson State 8-4 and 3-8 respectively, also in the Cactus Jack Classic. The Panthers also fell to Stephen F. Austin on the road on Tuesday by a score of 11-1.
 
Southern comes in at a 3-1 mark so far, winning games against Jackson State, Grambling, and Texas Southern as part of the 2023 Cactus Jack HBCU Classic, held on February 17-19. The lone loss came on Tuesday, as they fell 18-4 to No. 1 ranked Louisiana State on the road.
