HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – New Alabama A&M head soccer coach Prince Borde has announced the first additions to his program with the signing of eight incoming student-athletes, announced Monday.
The class of eight includes five players that will be first-year students in Amelia Barber, Janiah Bolden, Sydney Jones, Albany Rios, and Megham St-Cyr, along with a trio transfers in Daniela Marroquin, Leah Messiah, and Taliah Simon.
Amelia Barber l Mckinney, Texas l Liberty HS
A native of Mckinney, Texas, Barber attended Liberty High School where she is set to graduate in May. She also competed for FC Dallas for the last six years as a defender and helped Liberty to state titles in 2018 and 2021, while being named Defensive Player of the Year on the team this past year and First Team All-District as a senior.
Janiah Bolden l Clermont, Fla. l East Ridge HS
Bolden is from Clermont, Florida and competed with East Ridge High School at midfield and forward despite being homeschooled. At East Ridge, Bolden and her team were two-time District Champions, while she was also named First Team All-County for four consecutive years.
Sydney Jones l Orlando, Fla. l Edgewater HS
Jones prepped at Edgewater High School out of Orlando, where she was a member of the varsity squad for all four years. The forward helped Edgewater to a District title in 2021 and also played club ball with the Florida Kraze Krush for six years.
Daniela Marroquin l Spring, Texas l Navarro College
Marroquin comes to the Bulldog program after transferring from Navarro College, where she played in 30 total games over two seasons. In her sophomore year, she started 13 of 15 games in 2022 and will provide vital experience in the first year under Coach Borde.
Leah Messiah l Trinidad and Tobago l Essex CC
Messiah has trained with the Trinidad and Tobago U15, U17, and U20 teams throughout her prep career, including winning the national youth sport award in 2020. She is transferring from Essex Community College and was the captain of their program last season. She was also the captain of her high school at Carapichaima East Secondary School where she made the Secondary School Football League All- star team.
Albany Rios l Orlando, Fla. l Lake Buena Vista HS
Rios prepped at Lake Buena Vista High School in Orlando and was a starter and captain all four years, including winning team MVP honors in three of her four years. The forward was the top goal scorer in the state throughout her prep career, along with being a top scorer on her club team, Orlando City, earning her a call up to the U20 Venezuelan women's national team.
Taliah Simon l Trinidad and Tobago l Essex CC
Taliah Simon comes from Essex County College and is majoring in Business Administration. The midfielder started seven games last season with Essex and scored three goals and recorded three assists, for a total of nine points on the year.
Méghane St-Cyr l Longueuil, QC, Canada l Essex CC
St-Cyr attended high school at College français Longueuil. She played in 2 different U20 World Cup qualifiers with Haiti and also played for the Haitian Senior women's national team that has competed for World Cup qualifiers.
