BIRMINGHAM, Ala. __ The Southwestern Athletic Conference announced its 2022-23 All-SWAC Women's Basketball teams and individual award winners on Tuesday evening. The all-conference honors were voted on by the league's coaches and sports information directors.
Alabama A&M forward
Amani Free was named Second Team All-SWAC on the evening. The graduate student has scored a team-high 11.9 points per contest, along with grabbing 5.5 rebounds in her first season in the SWAC. She also dished out 1.4 assists in 31.6 minutes on her way to helping the Bulldogs to a 14-14 record, good for a No. 2 seed in the SWAC Tournament, and a 9-2 overall mark at home.
The forward put up double figures in 15 games, including three 20-point efforts, leading with a season-high 23 points against Prairie View A&M (Jan. 23). Free also grabbed five or more boards in 15 games, while shooting 38.8 percent from the field, 32.2 percent from three-point range, and 73.2 percent from the free throw line.
Free and the Bulldogs return to action on Wednesday inside Bartow Arena for their opening game of the SWAC Tournament. Tip-off is set for 11 a.m. as Alabama A&M will face off against Arkansas-Pine Bluff to start the week of play.
