Baseball Preview: Northwestern State

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. __ The Alabama A&M baseball team returns to action this weekend, traveling for a three-game series against Northwestern State at Brown-Stroud Field. First pitch on Friday is set for 6 p.m. on ESPN+.
 
The teams will continue the series on Saturday at 3 p.m., before closing out play Sunday at 12 p.m. This weekend is the first ever meeting between the two schools.
 
The Bulldogs enter the matchup at 7-5, one of the best starts to a season in program history. They currently rank fifth in the nation in stolen bases and steals per game with 43 total, good for 3.58 per contest, led by Chevalier Dorris who is fifth individually in Division I with 11. A&M is also 13th as a team in triples, including four from Miles Jackson, good for a top-20 mark in the country.
 
Four batters hit over .300 at the plate on the year, as the team holds an overall average of .272 with 94 hits and 80 runs in 12 games. Jared Tribett has been hot at the plate to start, batting .375, earning 12 hits, scoring 13 runs, and driving in 10 runs. Tommy Easley also has double figure hit, run and RBI totals, knocking 13 hits, scoring 13 runs and 10 RBI on the year.
 
Northwestern State comes into the weekend at 6-6, including a 3-2 mark at home. The Demons are coming off a 3-1 win over Louisiana Monroe on the road. Three batters bat above .300, led by Duante Stuart (.447), Michael Dattalo (.404), and Broch Holmes (.308), while the team has 98 total hits and 61 runs in 12 games.
