BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Alabama A&M track and field programs concluded an impressive meet with a trio of first place finishes over the two-day WKU Hilltopper Relay event held at the Charles M. Ruter Track and Field Complex.
Event wins came by way of
Olivia Andrews (400m), Aaliyah Jones (triple jump), and the women's 4x400m relay.
Three Bulldogs finished in the top ten in the long jump on Friday, as Jones took sixth at 5.13 meters, followed by teammates
Ta'Nya Burnett (5.12m) and
Amber Jamison (4.96m) finished seventh and ninth respectively.
Meanwhile, in the men's hammer throw,
Isaiah McCaulley took home a seventh-place finish with a distance of 48.07m, followed by
Ezekiel Salama in 12th at 40.68m.
Andrews earned her first-place finish in the 400 on day two and was followed by freshman
Kendyl Hawkins in fourth with a time of 1:00.47. In the 800,
De'Ajene Johnson (2:23.12) and
Taylor Wingo (2:24.41) took third and fourth in the event.
Ajanae Cressey was the final individual standout sprinter on the women's side, taking second in the 100-meter hurdles at 15.30.
On the men's side, senior
Kyle Graham (50.24s) and freshman Cedric Burell Jr. (52.59s) finished fourth and 10th in the 400-meter, while three runners finished in the top ten in the 800, including
Leslie Jones (3rd – 1:59.41),
Lawrence Armstead (5th – 2:00.34), and
Eric Brannon (7th – 2:01.83).
In the field events, Salama took fifth in the discus throw at 40.68m, while seniors
Brandon McLaren (38.89m) and
Isaiah McCaulley (36.06m) took seventh and tenth. McCaulley also earned a top-10 finish in the hammer throw with a distance of 48.07m, good for seventh.
Alabama A&M will compete again next weekend as they head to Oxford, Mississippi for the Joe Walker Invite at the Ole Miss Track & Field Complex. This is the second time the Bulldogs will travel to Ole Miss this outdoor season, as they previously took part in the Ole Miss Classic in March.
