OXFORD, Miss. – The Alabama A&M track and field team recorded five top 10 finishes and 15 in the top-20 at the Joe Walker Invite, hosted by Ole Miss over the weekend.
The Bulldogs had strong performances at the Ole Miss Track & Field Complex, with the top mark being a second-place finish in the women's 4x400m relay.
Laila Gaynor,
Victoya Smith,
Kendyl Hawkins, and reigning SWAC Women's Track and Field Player of the Week
Olivia Andrews joined forces for the 3:47.73 time.
Gaynor and Smith also performed well in the 200-meter, finishing 10th and 18th at 24.42 and 24.67 respectively, while Andrews took 16th at 57.65 in the 400.
Other notable performances came by way of Brianna Cox,
Ajanae Cressey, and
Aneisha Ingram. Cox finished 19th in the hammer throw with a distance of 43.51 meters. Meanwhile, Cressey took 20th in the 100m hurdle before Ingram placing 17th (4:44.79) in the 1500m and 23rd (2:17.27) in the 800.
Junior
Brandon McLaren earned top 15 finishes in three events, including taking seventh (56.54m/185-06) in the javelin, eighth (14.66) in the 100m hurdle, and 14th (6.64m/21-09.50) in the long jump.
A&M had three top-15 finishers in the men's 400, with
Talil Atkins finishing sixth at 48.97, followed by
Keyshawn Johnson at 49.58 and Kody Push at 49.66 at 14th and 15th respectively. Atkins and Johnson also competed in the 200, with Johnson finishing 12th at 21.76, while Atkins finished at 20 at 22.01.
The Alabama A&M track and field program will continue their season on Saturday, April 22, at the University of Alabama, competing in the Crimson Tide Invitational at the Sam Bailey Track and Field Stadium.
