THE HILL| After notching their first road win and conference victory, the Alabama A&M University volleyball team (3-10, 1-1 SWAC) will travel to the Sunshine State to take on Bethune-Cookman University (4-10, 1-1 SWAC) on Friday at 6 p.m. (CT) and Florida A&M (10-5, 2-0 SWAC) on Sunday at Noon.
In its opening weekend of Conference play, the Bulldogs went 1-1 against, falling 3-1 to Grambling State and sweeping Arkansas Pine Bluff 3-0. Fatima Ramirez led the team in scoring over the two matches, recording 29 kills and one service ace. Saldy Amparo-Smith was right behind her, with 28 terminations and 16 digs. Grace Tapscott tallied 33 assists and 13 digs and 5 service aces over the weekend.
Bethune-Cookman went 1-1 in its conference opening weekend, sweeping Mississippi Valley State 3-0, but falling to Grambling State 3-1. The Wildcats saw a balanced defense in both matches, with at least five players in the leading number of digs. Senior Kytal Price led the team in kills in the match against MVSU, hitting a .909% after killing 10 balls on 11 attempts with no errors. Amya Jennings paced the match against GSU, tallying 17 terminations. AAMU leads in the all-time series with the Wildcats, with the most recent win coming last season, where the Bulldogs swept BCU at the Elmore Center in Huntsville. Florida A&M opened conference play unbeaten, claiming victories over defending SWAC Champions Jackson State University and Mississippi Valley State. Iyonnie Sanford notched 22 kills in the match versus JSU, while Alexandra Koleva tallied 40 assists. Makenzie Taylor totaled 12 assists in competition against MVSU.
