Women’s Soccer Prepped for Road Match against Rival Alabama State

THE HILL | The Alabama A&M soccer team (5-10-1, 3-3-1 SWAC) will play in the final set to face in-state rival Alabama State University (5-6-3, 2-2-3) on Friday at the ASU Soccer Complex at 6 p.m.

The Bulldogs continue their road swing after going 1-1 in their Texas swing, falling to Texas Southern 1-0 and defeating Prairie View 2-0. Junior Chelsie Charles opened the scoring against the Panthers, took advantage of a misplaced goalkeeper and sent the ball to the lower center of the goal off her right foot. PVAMU took two more shots, but it was Perez-Acosta who sent the ball to the top center of the net to put the Bulldogs up 2-0.

The Hornets also entered their Texas Swing, tying the Panthers 1-1 and falling to Texas Southern 3-0. The hornets recorded 12 shots, half of them on target, while TSU only recorded two shots on goal, and seven total. Rachel Mull, the team's leading scorer, was the lone Hornet scorer in the match, assisted by Lykke Johnsen-Morken.

The Bulldogs and Hornets faced off as the final match of the regular season last year, with the Bulldogs claiming the victory 1-0, after Charles scored a goal in the 28th minute, assisted by Jasmine Perez-Acosta. AAMU trails in the all-time series with ASU, 11-8.
