SAN DIEGO | The Alabama A&M women's basketball team (3-2) is set to compete in the San Diego Thanksgiving Classic on Friday and Saturday. The Bulldogs will face the Utah Valley Wolverines of Friday at 4 p.m. (PST) and the University of San Diego Toreros on Saturday at 4 p.m. Saturday's contest can be watched on ESPN+.
AAMU continues its eight-game road stretch after defeating the UAH Chargers 71-68 on Friday evening. Senior Kalia Walker scored a season high 23 points and six rebounds. Alisha Wilson added 11 points, six rebounds and four steals, while Kourtney Rittenberry tallied 10 points and four steals of her own. Lauryn Pendleton scored 13 points and a team-high five assists.
The Wolverines are coming off a split weekend, falling 76-68 to Loyola Marymount and defeating Bethesda (CA) 89-56. UVU was led by Kennedy Carlyle's 21 points and 11 rebounds and Gracie Sorenson's 14 points and 14 rebounds in the victory.
The Toreros return to the Jenny Craig Pavilion for the first time in three weeks, going 1-2 in their early season road swing. San Diego most recently fell to UC Santa Barbara 71-63 in overtime. Kylie Horstmeyer paced the Toreros with 17 points in the loss. Ava Ranson and Truitt Reilly added 12 points apiece, with Reilly grabbing a team-high 11 boards.
Friday's action will begin with USD against Nebraska Omaha at 2 pm before the AAMU vs Utah Valley contest. Utah Valley will face Omaha first on Saturday before AAMU competes against the host team to round out the classic.
The Classic will serve as the first time AAMU will face off with both teams. The Bulldogs are 1-2 against Western Athletic Conference (WAC) schools while Utah Valley has only faced one other SWAC school, dropping a contest to Texas Southern in 2006.
