BIRMINGHAM, Ala. | The Alabama A&M University men's and women's indoor track and field teams opened the season on Friday at the Birmingham Icebreaker at the Crossplex.
Both programs had some highlighted performances in the season-opening meet.
Women's Track
- Chelsea Whitehurst qualified sixth in the 60m hurdles finals after running a personal-best 8.90 in the preliminaries
- In the finals of the 60m hurdles, Whitehurst placed seventh in 8.88
- Laila Gaynor and Victoya Smith were second and fifth, respectively in the 300m, registering times of 38.81 and a personal-best 40.53
Women's Field
- Ajanae Cressey placed 10th in the long jump at 5.44m
- In the weight throw, Amaya Mitchell-Howard finished ninth, with a toss of 16.15m
- Amber Jamison placed 10th in the triple jump at 11.31m
Men's Track
- Eric Barker qualified fifth in the 60m hurdles finals after running an 8.44 in the prelims
- In the finals of the 60m hurdles, Barker finished fifth, logging a time of 8.42
- The distance medley relay team of Zachary Cooper, Talil Atkins, Turner and Eric Brannon finished third, logging a time of 10:43.45, while AAMU's second team of Caleb Roberts, Isaac Jackson, Lawrence Armstead and Bravin Kibitok finished seventh in 11:12.97
Men's Field
- Bruce Davis placed seventh in the shot put, with a toss of 15.10m
- In the long jump, Malachi Taylor and Olivier Jean finished sixth and seventh, respectively, with leaps of 6.87m and 6.81m.
Alabama A&M returns to the track after the new year as the Bulldogs will compete in the UAB Blazer Invite on Jan. 11.
