COVINGTON, Ga. | The Alabama A&M University softball team took a one-run lead into the sixth inning and got two runs to pull away for a 4-1 victory to conclude play at the HBCU Collegiate Invitational on Sunday.
The Bulldogs (2-5) came into the contest seeking their first win of the tournament and took advantage of three North Carolina Central errors to pick up the victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Alabama A&M jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning as
Serena Herbranson, who reached on a leadoff single to center, came across to score on a wild pitch, giving the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead.
North Carolina Central (4-6) plated a run in the third to tie the game at 1, but AAMU answered with a run in the fifth as
Tori Green, who reached on an infield hit, scored on
Iyanna Canada reached on an error.
The Bulldogs pushed the lead to 4-1 with two runs in the sixth.
Susanna Cruit opened the frame with a walk and advanced to third why
Madison Murray singled to right.
Catherine Hickey brought Cruit across on a sacrifice fly to center.
Imani Mathis struck out, but reached base on an error, allowing Murray to score.
GAME NOTES
- Alabama A&M finished with four runs on three hits and left five on base
- Serena Herbranson, Madison Murray and Tori Green recorded hits
- Cris'Deona Beasley pitched a complete game to earn the win
- Beasley fanned nine and walked four in seven innings

- Xenna Tompkins started for NCCU, going four innings and giving up one run
- Ashanti Eubanks (2-2) took the loss, surrendering three runs (one earned) on two hits, walked a pair and struck out one in two innings

Alabama A&M returns to action next weekend (Friday-Sunday) at the HBCU Celebration Classic in Montgomery, Ala. The Bulldogs will face Alcorn State and Howard on Friday, Southern and Tuskegee on Saturday and close out the tournament against Grambling State.
