MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Zahria Jones delivered a bases-clearing triple as the Alabama A&M University softball team opened the HBCU Celebration Classic with a 7-3 win over Alcorn State at the Barbara Williams Softball Complex.
In the final game of the night, which ended nearly around midnight, the Bulldogs fell to Howard, 4-0, at Lagoon Park to split the first day of action.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Alabama A&M (3-5) raced out to a 2-0 in the top of the first inning as
Madison Murray delivered a two-RBI single up the middle as
Allyson Riches and
Serena Herbranson scored.
Alcorn State closed the gap to 2-1 with a run in the bottom of the first and grabbed a 3-2 advantage with two runs in the second.
The Bulldogs tied the game in the third Riches scored on a muffed throw by the shortstop.
Alabama A&M grabbed a 7-3 lead in the seventh with four runs on three hits and took advantage of a pair of errors.
Jones delivered a bases loaded triple to right center and later scored on a wild pitch as the Bulldogs picked up the victory
