MONTGOMERY, Ala. | The Alabama A&M University softball team rallied from a one-run deficit in the seventh inning to pick up a 6-5 victory over Tuskegee on Saturday afternoon to close out Day 2 of action in the HBCU Celebration Classic.
The Bulldogs (4-7) opened the day with a 10-0 loss to Southern but bounced back in the second game with the win over Tuskegee.
HOW IT HAPPENED – Game 1
Southern plated one run in the first inning, three in the second, one in the third, one in the fourth and the game out of reach with four runs in the seventh for the 10-0 victory.
GAME NOTES
- Alabama A&M finished with two hits and committed four errors
- Dakota Daniel and Callia Rooks collected on hit
- Southern finished with 10 runs on 13 hits, had one error
HOW IT HAPPENED – Game 2
The Golden Tigers jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning, but saw it disappear in the fourth on a
Zahria Jones two-run homer as the Bulldogs grabbed a 2-1 lead.
AAMU added two more runs in the fifth for a 4-1 lead, but Tuskegee bounced back with three runs in the sixth, tying the game at 4.
The Golden Tigers broke the tie in the seventh with a run, setting the stage for the dramatics in the bottom of the inning.
Iyanna Canada opened the frame and reached on an error. With one down, Canada stole second and scored on a
Dakota Daniel base hit. Daniel stole second and third. After a walk to
Allyson Riches, Jones struck out.
Katie Puckett followed and reached on an error as Daniel scored the game-winning run.
GAME NOTES
- Alabama A&M finished with six runs on nine hits, committed one error and stranded four on base
- Dakota Daniel and Allyson Riches each collected two hits
- Cris'Deona Bealsey started and gave up four runs (one earned) on two hits, with six strikeouts and four walks in five innings
- Paige Scott (1-0) earned the win in 2.0 innings of relief
- Tuskegee finished with five runs on five hits, had two errors and left four on base

Alabama A&M closes out the HBCU Celebration Classic on Sunday against Grambling State. First pitch is set for 10 a.m. at the Barbara Williams Softball Complex.
