NEW ORLEANS, La. | The Alabama A&M University baseball team scored four runs in the top of the seventh inning but it wasn't enough as New Orleans defeated the Bulldogs, 14-4, in seven innings on Friday night at Maestri Field.
Alabama A&M (2-7) fell behind 10-0 through five innings and could not overcome four errors in the road loss.
HOW IT HAPPENED
New Orleans (5-4) jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first and added five runs in the third, two in the fourth and one more in the fifth for a 10-0 advantage.
Alabama A&M got four runs back in the seventh, taking advantage of one UNO error.
Miles Jackson opened the inning and singled to center. After a walk to Zac Rice,
Dre Amaral singled to left center as Jackson scored. Kylen Duncan followed with a ground out as Rice scored.
Chevalier Dorris drew a walk as Amaral scored on a wild pitch. Dorris came around to score on an
Alex Diaz fielder's choice.
The Privateers put the game away with four in the bottom of the frame for the 14-4 victory.
GAME NOTES
- Alabama A&M finished with four runs on five hits, committed four errors and stranded five on base
- Brycen Hammonds went 2-for-3 at the plate to pace the AAMU offense
- Nick Anaya took the loss, surrendering two runs on one hit, with one strikeout in 02 innings
- Evan Hurlburt and Jose Valerio pitched in relief
- New Orleans finished with 14 runs on 15 hits, with one error and left eight on base
- Mitchell Sanford went 3-for-5, with three runs scored and two RBI
- Victor Castillo went 3-for-5, with three runs driven in and a pair of runs scored
- Colton Mercer earned the win as he gave up two runs on four hits, fanned nine and walked two in 6.0 innings
- Trey Usey worked the seventh inning in relief
