JACKSON, Miss. | The Alabama A&M University softball team dropped a Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) doubleheader on Saturday to Jackson State, falling 2-0 in the opener and 7-3 in the second game at the JSU Softball Field.
HOW IT HAPPENED – Game 1
After five scoreless innings, Jackson State (16-7 overall, 4-1 SWAC) plated a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth to seal the 2-0 victory
GAME NOTES
- Alabama A&M (4-13, 0-5) finished with six hits and left three on base
- Allyson Riches paced the Bulldogs at the plate by going 2-for-3
- Cris'Deona Beasley (3-3) took the loss, surrendering two runs on six hits, with four walks and three strikeouts in seven innings
- Jackson State finished with two runs on six hits and stranded eight on base
- Samiyyah Huckabee led the Tigers at the plate, going 1-for-3, with two RBI
- Victoria Salazar earned the complete-game victory, scattering six hits and fanning a pair
HOW IT HAPPENED – Game 2
Jackson State jumped out to a 1-0 lead after two innings, but AAMU tied the game in the top of the third on an RBI single by
Dakota Daniel.
The Tigers answered with a run in the bottom of the frame to grab a 2-1 advantage.
Back came the Bulldogs with a pair of runs in the fourth.
With two down,
Faith Cross doubled to left and moved to third on a passed ball.
Madison Murray singled to right to score Cross from third and
Katie Puckett plated Green, who pinch ran for Murray, on a double to left center as Alabama A&M took a 3-2 lead.
However, Jackson State responded with three runs in the fourth and two more in the sixth for the 7-3 victory.
GAME NOTES
- Alabama A&M finished with three runs on eight hits, committed four errors and left six on base
- Daniel went 2-for-4 at the plate, with one RBI to lead AAMU
- Sydney Hall (0-3) took the loss, giving up seven runs (four earned) on seven hits, with seven walks and four strikeouts in six innings
- Jackson State finished with seven runs on seven hits, had one error and stranded 11 on base
- Julie Lopez drove in three runs, while going 1-for-4 at the plate
- Sofia Gonzalez (3-3) picked up the win in seven innings, giving up three runs on eight hits, fanned three and walked one
