HUNTSVILLE, Ala. | The Alabama A&M University softball team returned to action on Saturday in Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) play as the Bulldogs dropped the doubleheader to Bethune-Cookman, 5-0, in the opener and nearly rallying from eight runs down in the second game, before falling 10-8, to the Wildcats at Bulldog Field.
HOW IT HAPPENED – Game 1
In the opener, Bethune-Cookman (9-19 overall, 7-1 SWAC) plated one run each of the first three innings, then added runs in the fifth and seventh for the 5-0 victory.
GAME NOTES
- Alabama A&M (4-13, 0-5) finished with four hits, five errors and left four on base
- Allyson Riches, Katie Puckett, Tori Green and Iyanna Canada each collected hits
- Cris'Deona Beasley (3-5) took the loss, giving up five runs (three earned) on nine hits, with three strikeouts and two walks in seven innings
- Bethune-Cookman finished with five runs on nine hits and stranded six on base
- Brooklyn Scott paced the Wildcats at the plate by going 2-for-4, with one RBI and one run scored
- Halyne Gonzalez (6-9) earned the winning in all seven innings, scattering four hits, fanning seven and walking one
HOW IT HAPPENED – Game 2
Bethune-Cookman scored two runs in the top of the first, but Alabama A&M answered with a run in the bottom of the inning to trail, 2-1, after one full inning.
The Wildcats plated three in the second and four more in the fourth to extend their lead to 7-1.
AAMU trimmed the deficit to 7-2 with a run in the bottom of the fourth.
Katie Puckett opened the frame with a single up the middle. She was replaced on the base paths by
Kaidence Swoopes, who came around to score on a
Catherine Hickey single through the right side.
Bethune-Cookman added one more run in the fifth, before plating two in the top of the seventh for a 10-2 lead.
Alabama A&M refused to go down quietly though, scoring six runs on four hits and nearly pulling off the eight-run comeback.
The inning was highlighted by a
Dakota Daniel bases-loaded triple, which cut the deficit to 10-8. However, after a pitching change,
Iyanna Canada grounded out to end the threat and game.

- Alabama A&M finished with eight runs on 11 hits, committed five errors and stranded nine on base
- Katie Puckett led the offense by going 4-for-4, with one run scored and one RBI
- Dakota Daniel collected two hits, three runs driven in and one run scored
- Sydney Hall (0-5) took the loss, surrendering 10 runs (four earned) on 11 hits, fanned seven and walked three in seven innings
- Bethune-Cookman finished with 10 runs on 11 hits, had one error and left seven on base
- Essence Gibbs went 3-for-4, with two runs scored
- Jerzy Alaan collected two hits and drove in four
- Ang Badalament (3-5) pitched five innings to earn the win as she gave up two runs on seven hits, struck out five and walked one
UP NEXT
Alabama A&M concludes its three-game SWAC series on Sunday against Bethune-Cookman. First pitch is scheduled for 10 a.m. at Bulldog Field.
