HUNTSVILLE, Ala. | The Alabama A&M University softball team closed out its three-game Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) series on Sunday morning with a 17-1 loss in five innings to Bethune-Cookman at Bulldog Field.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Bethune-Cookman (10-19 overall, 8-1 SWAC) struck for three runs in the top of the first inning, but Alabama A&M (4-16, 0-8) trimmed the deficit to 3-1 with a run in the bottom of the frame.
Dakota Daniel walked to begin the inning and advanced to second on an
Iyanna Canada sacrifice bunt.
Allyson Riches followed with a double to left center, scoring Daniel from second.
The Wildcats exploded with an eight-run third inning and didn't look back as Bethune-Cookman plated one in the fourth and added five more in the fifth for the 17-1 victory.
GAME NOTES
- Alabama A&M finished with one run on four hits, committed four errors and left five on base
- Dakota Daniel, Iyanna Canada, Allyson Riches and Serena Herbranson each collected one hit
- Paige Scott (1-5) took the loss in two innings of work. She surrendered nine runs (eight earned) on eight hits, with three walks and one strikeout
- Sydney Hall pitched the final three innings in relief
- Bethune-Cookman finished with 17 runs on 18 hits, with one error and stranded six on base
- Joslyn Davis went 4-for-4, with four RBI and two runs scored
- Jerzy Alaan collected three hits, scored once and drove in one
- Halyne Gonzalez (7-9) recorded the win in five innings. She gave up one run on four hits, struck out two and walked a pair
