MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Serena Herbranson collected two hits and drove in two, while
Madison Murray recorded three hits as the Alabama A&M University softball team picked up its first Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) win on Friday afternoon with a 6-4 victory over rival Alabama State at the Barbara Williams Softball Complex.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Alabama A&M (5-16 overall, 1-8 SWAC) opened the scoring in the top half of the first inning with three runs on four hits, while taking advantage of an error to grab a quick 3-0 lead.
Dakota Daniel opened the game by reaching on an error and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by
Serena Herbranson.
Katie Puckett followed with a single to right, plating Daniel.
Faith Cross singled to right as Puckett stopped at second.
Madison Murray continued the hit parade with a base hit through the left side, loading the bases.
Tori Green singled down the line in right as
Callia Rooks, who pinch ran for Puckett, scored and Cross came around to score on a ground out by
Catherine Hickey.
Alabama State (15-19, 5-5) pulled within one run in the bottom of the frame with two runs, trimming the deficit to 3-2.
Back came the Bulldogs in the second, plating two runs on two hits.
With one down, Daniel reached on an infield hit and scored on a Herbranson double. After a pitching change, Puckett reached on an error as Herbranson scored, giving Alabama A&M a 5-2 lead.
The Bulldogs added a run in the sixth as Herbranson singled up the middle, plating Daniel, who reached on an infield hit, as AAMU stretched the advantage to 6-2.
The Hornets picked up one run in the sixth and one in the seventh in falling, 6-4.
GAME NOTES
- Alabama A&M finished with six runs on 11 hits, had one error and stranded eight on base
- Dakota Daniel went 2-for-4, with three runs scored

- Cris'Deona Beasley (4-5) picked up the complete-game victory, surrendering four runs (three earned) on seven hits, with six strikeouts and four walks
- Alabama State finished with four runs on seven hits, with four errors and left six on base
- Brooke Ramsey went 2-for-3, with one run driven in to pace the ASU offense
- Kohana Pousson (2-4) took the loss, giving up five runs (three earned) on six hits in 1.1 innings
- Ana Richiez worked the final 5.2 innings in relief
