Alabama A&M Concludes Series with Doubleheader Loss

MONTGOMERY, Ala. | The Alabama A&M University softball team concluded its three-game Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) series on Saturday, losing the doubleheader 15-1 and 9-1 in five innings at the Barbara Williams Softball Complex.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME 1
After a scoreless first inning, Alabama State struck for six runs on three hits and took advantage of three errors to grab a 6-0 lead.
 
Alabama A&M (5-18 overall, 1-10 SWAC) got a run back in the top of the third as Iyanna Canada opened the frame with an infield hit and came around to score on a Katie Puckett ground out.
 
The Hornets (17-19, 7-5) exploded for six runs on three hits and capitalized on two errors to extend their lead to 12-1 in the bottom of the third.
 
Alabama State put the game away with three more runs in the fourth for a 15-1 advantage. 
 
GAME NOTES
  • Alabama A&M finished with one run on three hits, committed six errors and left four on base
  • Dakota Daniel, Katie Puckett and Iyanna Canada each collected one hit
  • Cris'Deona Beasley (4-6) took loss in 1.1 innings, giving up six runs (two earned) on four hits, with two walks and a pair of strikeouts
  • Sydney Hall and Timarian Tinsley pitched in relief
  • Alabama State finished with 15 runs on 12 hits, had one error and stranded six on base
  • Kindal DeRamus went 2-for-3, with three runs scored and a pair of RBI
  • Charity Bibbs earned the victory, giving up one run on three hits, fanned four and walked one
HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME 2
The Bulldogs jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning as Daniel opened the frame with a single and came all the way around on an error by the left fielder.
 
However, Alabama State answered with six runs on five hits in the bottom of the first to grab a 6-1 lead.
 
The Hornets added a run in the second, one in the fourth and won the game in the fifth with one run.
 
GAME NOTES
  • Alabama A&M finished with one run on three hits, committed two errors and stranded three on base
  • Dakota Daniel, Iyanna Canada and Serena Herbranson each collected one hit
  • Sydney Hall (0-6) took the loss, giving up six runs on four hits, with two walks and one strikeout in 0.2 innings
  • Paige Scott pitched 4.0 innings in relief
  • Alabama State finished with nine runs on nine hits, had one error and left two on base
  • Jaeda Gardner went 2-for-3, with two runs scored
  • Lauryn Maher and JaNiyah Boykin also collected two hits
  • Charity Bibbs (9-10) picked up the complete-game win, surrendering one run on three hits. Fanned four and walked one
