HUNTSVILLE, Ala. | The Alabama A&M University softball team opened its three-game Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) series on Friday afternoon with a 6-3 loss to Mississippi Valley State at the Bulldog Softball Field.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Mississippi Valley State (3-23 overall, 1-12 SWAC) plated a run in the top of the first inning, but Alabama A&M answered with a run in the bottom of the frame, tying the game at 1.
The Devilettes added one run in the second and third innings and exploded for three in the fourth for a 6-1 advantage.
The Bulldogs (5-19, 1-11) got two runs back in the bottom of the fifth.
With two down,
Serena Herbranson reached on an infield hit and came around to score on a
Katie Puckett triple.
Faith Cross brought Puckett in with a single to right.
GAME NOTES
- Alabama A&M finished with three runs on six hits, three errors and left six on base
- Serena Herbranson went 2-for-4, with one run scored
- Cris'Deona Beasley (1-5) took the loss, surrendering six runs (four earned) on nine hits, fanned nine and walked five
- Mississippi Valley State finished with six runs on nine hits, committed one error and stranded nine on base
- Breaunna Troop led the Devilettes by going 1-for-3, with three runs batted in
- Morgan Guiterrez (2-4) earned the win, giving up three runs on six hits, with one walk

Alabama A&M concludes its three-game SWAC series with a doubleheader against Mississippi Valley State on Saturday at the Bulldog Softball Field. First pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m.
