HUNTSVILLE, Ala. | The Alabama A&M University baseball team surrendered an eight-run first inning and could not bounce back as the Bulldogs dropped the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) series finale to Florida A&M, 15-5, on Sunday at Bulldog Field.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Florida A&M (8-12 overall, 3-0 SWAC) took advantage of an error in the opening frame to scored eight runs on six hits as the Rattlers jumped out to an 8-0 lead.
Alabama A&M (2-16, 0-3) got two of those runs back in the bottom of the inning.
Alex Diaz began the inning with a bunt single and moved to second on an error.
Dre Amaral followed with a single down the right field line as Diaz scored. With two outs,
Jared Tribett walked and advanced to third with a single to center by
Zak Rice. Bryce Hammonds was hit by a pitch and
Miles Jackson drew a walk, plating Tribett.
The Bulldogs closed the gap with two runs in the bottom of the second as
Tristan Curless doubled to left center, scoring Amaral and Makhi Lloyd as AAMU drew within four runs, 8-4.
However, FAMU plated three runs in the third to extend its lead to 11-4.
Alabama A&M got a solo homer by Curless in the fourth, closing the gap to 11-5, but Florida A&M proved to be too much, with one run in the fifth and three in the ninth for a 15-5 victory.
