MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Dre Amaral and
Tristan Curless each collected a pair of hits as the Alabama A&M University baseball team picked up its first Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) win on Saturday night, holding off Alabama State, 3-1, at the Wheeler-Watkins Baseball Complex.
HOW IT HAPPENED
After a scoreless first two innings, Alabama A&M (3-18 overall, 1-4 SWAC) plated two runs on three hits to grab a 2-0 lead in the top of the third.
With two out,
Miles Jackson drew a walk and scored on an
Alex Diaz double to right.
Dre Amaral followed and brought Diaz across on a single to right center.
The Bulldogs added to the lead with a run in the fourth.
Brycen Hammonds, who was hit by a pitch, scored on a Diaz fielder's choice as Alabama A&M pushed its lead to 3-0.
Alabama State (9-11, 1-3) picked up a run in the bottom of the eighth and was looking for more until an inning-ending double play ended the rally as the Bulldogs led, 3-1.

- Alabama A&M finished with three runs on six hits, committed two errors and stranded 10 on base
- Dre Amaral went 2-for-4, with one RBI

- Ryan Jones (1-1) picked up the win, scattering five hits, fanning three and walking one in six innings
