MONTGOMERY, Ala. | The Alabama A&M University baseball team could not get its bats going on Sunday afternoon as rival Alabama State won the rubber match of the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) series with a 7-0 victory at the Wheeler-Watkins Baseball Complex.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Alabama State (10-11 overall, 2-3 SWAC) opened the scoring with a run in the bottom of the first and extended its advantage to 5-0 after a grand slam by Devin Chandler in the fourth.
The Hornets added two more runs in the seventh to increase the advantage to 7-0.
GAME NOTES
- Alabama A&M (3-19, 1-5) finished with three hits, one error and left four on base
- Tristan Curless, Kylan Duncan and Alex Diaz recorded one hit apiece
- Austin McCready (0-1) took the loss, surrendering four runs (three earned) on four hits, with three strikeouts and three walks
- Evan Hurlburt and Trey Scott pitched in relief
- Alabama State finished with seven runs on seven hits and stranded seven on base
- Jay Hay and Devil Chandler collected two hits each
- Jafet Martinez (2-0) scattered just two hits and fanned nine in seven innings to earn the win
- Kyler McIntosh worked two innings in relief
