HUNTSVILLE, Ala. | Alabama A&M University junior guard
Amiah Simmons was named to the 2024 HBCU Division I Women's All-America Second Team, powered by BOXTOROW, on Monday afternoon.
Simmons, who was selected to the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) All-Second Team and All-Tournament team, dropped in a career-high 34 points, including a career-best five 3-pointers, in Alabama A&M's SWAC Women's Basketball Tournament quarterfinal loss to Arkansas-Pine Bluff.
The Overland Park, Kan. native averaged a team-best 15.7 points per game and scored in double figures in 27 of the 31 games played, including two games with 30-or-more points. In addition, Simmons set a school record for minutes played in a season (1,039) and her 34 points against UAPB was the second-most in a game since Nigeria Jones scored 35 against Alabama State on Feb. 26, 2022.
Norfolk State's Kierra Wheeler was named the HBCU Division I Women's National Player of the Year, while teammate Diamond Johnson garnered the impact player of the year honor. Jackson State's Tomekia Reed was selected the HBCU Division I Women's National Coach of the Year.
