DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. | The Alabama A&M University baseball team jumped out to a two-run lead in the top of the first inning, but could not hold off Bethune-Cookman as the Wildcats picked up a 6-2 Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) victory on Friday at Jackie Robinson Ballpark.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Alabama A&M (3-22 overall, 1-7 SWAC) opened the scoring in the top half of the first inning.
With two outs,
Tristan Curless drew a walk and scored on a double to left center by
Jared Tribett. Tribett scored when
Jesus Riera singled to left as the Bulldogs grabbed a quick 2-0 lead.
Bethune-Cookman (14-11, 6-1) answered in the bottom of the frame with two runs on two hits and took advantage of an error, tying the game at 2.
The Wildcats plated one run in the second and two more in the third to grab a 5-2 advantage.
Bethune-Cookman added a run in the seventh for the 6-2 victory.
GAME NOTES
- Alabama A&M finished with two runs on five hits, committed three errors and left three on base
- Chevalier Dorris went 2-for-3 at the plate
- Jared Tribett went 1-for-4, with one run scored and one RBI
- Ryan Jones (2-2) gave up five runs (three earned) on six hits, with four walks and three strikeouts in 3.0 innings to take the loss
- Evan Hurlburt and Gabe Nicholson pitched in relief
- Bethune-Cookman finished with six runs on 10 hits and stranded 14 on base
- Jorge Rodriguez went 2-for-5, with a pair of RBI and one run scored
- Peter Vazquez also went 2-for-5
- Daniel Figueroa went 2-for-3, one run scored
- Marcos Gamboa (2-1) earned the win in six innings, giving up two runs on four hits, with four strikeouts and a pair of walks
- Dylan Vega worked the final three innings to pick up his second save
