DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. | The Alabama A&M University baseball team got a three-run homer by
Jesus Riera in the first inning, but it wasn't enough as Bethune-Cookman completed the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) series sweep on Saturday, 10-6, at Jackie Robinson Ballpark.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Alabama A&M (3-23 overall, 1-8 SWAC) jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first inning.
Dre Amaral opened the frame with a double down the line in left and after a walk to
Brycen Hammonds,
Tristan Curless singled to right, plating Amaral. With one down,
Jesus Riera homered to left, giving the Bulldogs a big first inning.
Bethune-Cookman (15-11, 7-1) got a run back in the bottom of the first and grabbed a 5-4 advantage with four runs in the second inning.
The Bulldogs tied the game at 5 with a run in the fourth as
Blake Martin singled to begin the inning and came around to score on a sacrifice fly to center by
Christian Soto.
However, the Wildcats used a three-run bottom of the fourth to take an 8-5 advantage.
Bethune-Cookman extended its lead to 10-5 with a pair of runs in the fifth.
Alabama A&M got a run back in the eighth as
Angel Rivera doubled with two outs and scored a Riera singled to left as the Bulldogs trailed 10-6.
GAME NOTES
- Alabama A&M finished with six runs on eight hits, with three errors and stranded four on base
- Jesus Riera went 2-for-4, with four RBI and one run scored
- Austin McCready got the start for AAMU, going one inning as he surrendered one run, with two walks and one strikeout
- Trey Scott, Charlie Lazo, Kobe Stokes and Dustin Hernandez pitched in relief
- Bethune-Cookman finished with 10 runs on seven hits, committed two errors and left seven on base
- Jose Gonzalez went 2-for-3, with three runs driven in and one run scored
- Daniel Gaviria earned the win, giving up five runs (four earned) on four hits, fanned three and walked two in five innings
- Tanner Boccabello, Aaron Schaefer and Yoansell Diaz worked in relief
