FLORENCE, Ala. | Brycen Hammonds went 4-for-5, with a pair of runs batted in, but it wasn't enough as the Alabama A&M University baseball team fell behind by eight runs and could not rally in a 13-5 loss to North Alabama on Wednesday at Mike D. Lane Field.
HOW IT HAPPENED
North Alabama (10-17) plated two runs in the first inning, four in the second and three in the third for an 8-0 lead.
Alabama A&M (3-24) picked up a run in the fifth as
Chevalier Dorris, who reached on a lead-off walk, came around to score on a Hammonds base hit through the left side as the Bulldogs trimmed the deficit to 8-1.
AAMU continued to rally, scoring four runs on just one hit and took advantage of a pair of runs in the sixth inning, cutting the margin to 8-5.
With one down in the frame,
Angel Rivera walked and advanced to second when
Christian Soto reached on an error. Dorris drew a walk to load the bases.
Brandon Edwards followed and walked as Rivera scored.
Miles Jackson reached on an error as Soto scored and Hammonds plated Dorris with a single to left.
Tristan Curless followed with a ground out to second as Edwards scored.
However, the Lions sealed the victory with two runs in the bottom of the sixth and three more in the seventh for the 13-5 victory.

- Alabama A&M finished with five runs on six hits, committed three errors and stranded nine on base
- Brycen Hammonds went 4-for-5, with two RBI
- Kylan Duncan and Jesus Riera also collected hits
- Gabe Nicolson earned the start and took the loss in 1.1 innings. He surrendered six runs (five earned) on five hits, with one walk and one strikeout
- Charlie Lazo, Kobe Stokes, Trey Scott, Brett Parker and Tristan Curless pitched in relief
- North Alabama finished with 13 runs on 12 hits, with two errors and and 12 on base
- Gehrig Frei went 5-for-6, with four RBI and three runs scored
- Dominic McIntyre went 2-for-4, with two runs scored and one RBI
- Kyle Machado was 2-for-4, with a pair of runs scored
- John Allen Stogner started for UNA, going 4.0 innings as he fanned four, gave up two hits and walked one
- Justus Agosto, Caleb Menina, Justin Battle, Kevin Henrich and Dane Sykes worked in relief

Alabama A&M returns home for a three-game Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) series, starting on Friday against Mississippi Valley State. First pitch against the Delta Devils is scheduled for 2 p.m. from the Bulldog Baseball Field.
