Bulldogs Can’t Hold Off Tigers in 4-3 Loss

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. | The Alabama A&M University women's tennis team was on the verge of picking up its fifth Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) victory on Saturday, but could not hold off Jackson State in a 4-3 loss at the AAMU Tennis Courts.
 
Alabama A&M (4-13 overall, 4-5 SWAC) led 3-1 and needed just one singles victory to seal the match, but Jackson State (11-7, 7-1) picked up wins at No. 3, No. 4 and No. 5 to rally for the 4-3 victory.
 
The Bulldogs grabbed the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 3.
 
Ariadna Ondo Cerezo and Gabrielle Henderson defeated Zofia Dziewieckz and Zeina Shaaban, 6-3 at No. 1, while the team of Hannah Nagpall and Sofia Sotelo Raya knocked off Paula Corbalan and Isabella Benavides, 7-5, giving AAMU the doubles point.
 
In singles play, Ntokozo Zungu dfeated Tyra-Nicole White, 6-3, 6-3 at No. 1 and at No. 6, Raya bested Chaiara Desia Dabamo, 6-2, 6-4.

Alabama A&M has two matches remaining in the regular season, at home on Friday against Tuskegee and on Thursday, April 11 at Samford. First serve on Friday for Senior Day against the Golden Tigers is scheduled for 1 p.m. from the AAMU Tennis Courts.
