Bulldogs Drop Series Finale at JSU

JACKSON, Miss. | The Alabama A&M University baseball team jumped out to a six-run lead through two innings but couldn't hold on as Jackson State rallied and scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the ninth when Robert Tate Jr. was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded for the walk-off, 9-8, victory in a Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) game on Sunday at Braddy Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Alabama A&M (6-28 overall, 4-11 SWAC) opened the scoring in the top of the first on a solo homer by Brycen Hammonds, giving the Bulldogs a quick 1-0 lead.

AAMU extended the lead in the second with five runs on four hits.

Miles Jackson began the inning with a solo shot to left. Blake Martin and Jared Tribett drew back-to-back walks and Chevalier Dorris reached on a bunt single to load the bases. Dre Amaral followed with a single through the left side as Martin and Tribett scored. Hammonds brought Dorris and Amaral across with a base hit to left as Alabama A&M stretched its lead to 6-0.

Jackson State (23-11, 8-6) got a run back in the bottom of the third, cutting the deficit to 6-1.

The Tigers continued to chip away at AAMU's lead with two runs in the fourth and one in the fifth, before grabbing an 8-6 lead with four runs in the sixth.

Alabama A&M answered in the top of the seven as Tristan Curless belted a solo homer to begin the inning and Tribett scored Zak Rice, who was hit by a pitch, on a sacrifice fly to right, tying the game at 8.

However, the Tigers loaded the bases in the ninth and scored the game-winning run when Robert Tate Jr. was hit by a pitch.
