KNOXVILLE, Tenn. | The Alabama A&M University baseball team struggled to find the strike zone as the Bulldogs issued 13 free passes, while also hitting five batters, in a 20-2 loss in seven innings to fourth ranked Tennessee on Tuesday night at Lindsey Nelson Stadium.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Tennessee (27-6) loaded the bases in the bottom of the first inning and grabbed a quick 3-0 lead off AAMU starting pitcher
Roman Sorrell.
The Volunteers struck for four more runs in the third off just one hit, a bases clearing double by Christian Moore, as Tennessee took advantage of four walks in the frame to extend the lead to 7-0.
Alabama A&M (5-26) got two runs back in the top of the fourth, cutting the deficit to 7-2.
Miles Jackson opened the inning with a double to left center and with one out,
Zak Rice was hit by a pitch.
Blake Martin followed with a double that bounced off the wall in right as Jackson scored.
Jared Tribett plated
Dylan Lewis, who pinch ran for Rice, on a ground out.
The Volunteers responded with three runs in the bottom of the inning, pushing the lead to 10-2.
Tennessee took advantage of three walks and a hit by pitch in the fifth, increasing its lead to 11-2.
Tennessee used the long ball in the bottom of the sixth as Camden Bates smacked a three-run shot, while Colby Backus crushed a two-run homer. In addition, Ariel Antigua drilled a bases-clearing double to deep center as the Vols used a nine-run inning to extend the advantage to 20-2.
